Trading Cards: Ligatures (Series: ffl). An entire set consists of every root word (suffixes provided) in the English language that I could find that contains the ffl ligature. 54 in all. Each packet contains 10 cards.

Call me Bonzo. A 10-color letterpress (hand-set) accordion-fold book in which I attempt to convey the listening experience of John Bonham’s “Moby Dick” drum solo (the Led Zeppelin II recording) through typography. The covers are the same drum wrap that Ludwig drums would have used on Bonham’s green sparkle kit that he toured with and used in the studio (although he had many sets).

So, recently I have come across a few things that may appeal to language nerds—such as myself:

Steven Pinker gave a talk at TED (the Monterey, CA-based annual conference on ideas), on the subject of language and its connections to thought, which is also the topic of his new book, The Stuff of Thought. He was also interviewed on Talk of the Nation Science Friday a couple of weeks ago.

Chief Consulting Editor of American Dictionaries for Oxford University Press, and the editor of VERBATIM: The Language Quarterly, Erin McKean’s website, Dictionary Evangelist, and her TED talk about the future of the dictionary.

And this NPR interview with Wendell Jamieson about his book, Father Knows Less Or: “Can I Cook My Sister?”: One Dad’s Quest to Answer His Son’s Most Baffling Questions.
